Julia and Matthew had a beautiful summer wedding in Philadelphia! They had colorful wildflower bouquets, and they brightened up nursing homes after their wedding. Julia wrote to tell us about their love story and their colorful and fun wedding.
Matt and I met in Denmark in our Nordic mythology class and spent the whole semester together sightseeing in Copenhagen. After the semester abroad ended, we had a long distance relationship but, after I graduated from college, I moved to Philadelphia to be closer to Matt.
Now, seven years later, we’re getting married on the same day that Matt proposed to me. We celebrated how we met (and my graduate studies on The Viking Age) by having a custom-made Viking themed cake topper on our wedding cake.
We love living in Philly and wanted to have a true Philly wedding. Our wedding ceremony was at St. Patrick’s Church and our reception was at Union Trust, and we went around Philly to take pictures at Rittenhouse Square, City Hall, and Independence Hall!
I love how our wedding flowers turned out. I have been getting flowers from an Amish stand at the Rittenhouse Square farmer’s market for a few years now, and I was so excited that their family was able to do the flowers for our wedding. All I told them was that I wanted colorful and whimsical bouquets, and they put together some beautiful arrangements for us!
The wildflowers were perfect with my wedding dress, which was embroidered with whimsical summer flowers. My wildflower bridal bouquet was also personal to me; I took pieces of my mother’s and mother-in-law’s veils and bridesmaids dresses to wrap around my bouquet for my “something old” and “something blue.”
In planning our special day, Matt and I wanted our wedding to reflect the happiness we share in our relationship. We especially wanted our guests to remember the fun and joy of our wedding day.
